We left it late last night but got the win that puts us in the next round of the Macron Cup.
Due to the fixture scheduling and priorities for what’s to come, we changed up a few things last night, and it’s fair to say we were disjointed for the first 45 minutes.
It’s fair to say without the heroics of Paddy Wharton who was standing in for Theo it would have been over by half-time, Paddy made a whole host of stunning saves to keep Pilks out, that was until a poor pass from Morgan Falloh put two attackers in and despite another great save the ball was eventually put in the net.
As said, it could have been plenty more, and it was a poor half of football from the lads.
HT 0-1
Three changes at the break, and it certainly coukd have been more and from the changes we could see the impact immediately, and despite too many long balls for the opening 15 minutes of the half once we got it down and played we looked a threat.
The introduction of Connor Millington settled us down even more and the lads started to carve open chances and while Pilks was still dangerous on the counter we started to apply more pressure and got our rewards through Jesse Dowling.
Great work from Lewis Buckley seen him receive a throw in and spin his man, his delivery was on point but Tom Croughans attempt was parried to Jesse who made no mistake from close range.
The winner came deep into added time, and it was a cracking move from left to right,
Michael Fitzgerald switched a ball out to Jesse who gave a give and go to Bucko, Bucko ignored the run and took the ball to the byeline and delivered a great ball with his right peg and Connor Millo was on hand to tap it home with a first time finish.
FT 2-1
So certainly not a great performance overall, but a win is a win and that’s all that matters especially in them cup games, from a management point of view the 6/7 changes made didn’t help the performance, but we also expect more from lads no matter what side we put on the pitch.
The McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Paddy Wharton who was outstanding on the night, when called upon Paddy never lets us down and we can’t thank him enough for stepping in to help cover for Theo.
As always, thank you to those who made it over to Pilks, not our usual strong following with the reds playing, but still good numbers to back the lads once again.
Hopefully back up to full strength for the next away day on Saturday as we head over to Prestwich Heys.
We Go Again.
Up The Breck…
