Another good performance seen us beat Nelson 5-1 last night to book a place in the Macron Cup Quarter Final.

We got off to a flying start with two goals in the first ten minutes, the first coming from Jesse Dowling.

Sam Burns chased a man down and won the ball back and after a few passes between Owen Collinge, Liam Morris and Michael Fitzgerald the ball was passed over to Jesse who jinked inside and sent one into the far corner, Jesse’s 14 goal of the season.

The second goal seen a quick free-kick from Connor Millington which was floated up to Elliot Hughes, Elliot’s touch put it into the path of Sam Burns who twisted and turned and got a shot off which deflected in (the dubious goal panel giving it to Sam).

We threatened throughout the half with the better chances, seeing Elliot Hughes have a great effort tipped onto the bar and Sam Burns Connor Millo both forcing the keeper into very good saves.

We managed to get the third on the stroke of half-time after Elliot forced the keeper into yet another good save, Lewis Buckley picked up the bits and after his first attempt was blocked he made no mistake with the second.

HT 3-0

Second half we were a little flat and Nelson certainly came into the game more, but just as we were preparing four substitutes we grabbed a fourth goal.

Lewis Buckley pouncing on a ball falling to him in a great area, and he made no mistake celebrating with a lovely little baby in arms celebration for his newborn which arrived on Thursday morning.

The subs were made and Nelson near instantly got a goal back, no pressure on a ball seen it sent over Tom Mitchell and with Theo coming out it was knocked passed him, a poor goal for us to concede.

We killed the game off and near the referee in the process after a Leo Riley ball took the ref of his feet but with the ball falling to our man he allowed us to play on, and after it was shifted out wide to Tom Douglas he delivered a cracking ball for Owen Collinge who made no mistake from close range with a tidy finish.

FT 5-1

A job very well done and a place in the Quarter Final nailed, so another good result for the lads, which makes its eight games unbeaten with seven wins in that run.

The McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Elliot Hughes who once was a massive threat with the ball at his feet and one bit of skill late in the game had me drooling…

As always thanks to those in attendance on the night, sadly a low turn out for the game but with Chrimbo around the corner and those parties in full flow we no knew it be a tough one to get folks down to the game, just make sure your back for the next one.
