A 3-2 defeat in the Macron Cup last night, with mistakes costing us dearly.

A great strike from Elliot Hughes gave us the lead after ten minutes, and it looked to be a perfect start away from home.

We then saw Tom Croughan denied by the crossbar after sending a looping shot over the keeper before being denied by the keeper in a one v one.

Elliott Hughes and Sam Burns were both getting in great areas but taking too long to get there shots off and eventually seeing there strikes blocked.

A mistake from Theo Roberts gifted Barton an equaliser with a tame effort from a corner being spilled by Theo for what was a routine save for him.

We huffed and puffed for the next ten minutes and just on the stroke of half-time we went back ahead through Tom Croughan who tapped home from close range after Sam Burns had created the opening

Two minutes into the second half and another defensive error cost us when Michael Fitzgerald tried to take a man on 30 yards from his own goal and after being dispossessed we were on the back foot and scrambling to get back, to be fair to the Barnton player he took his opportunity well.

For the next 40 minutes we had ten maybe more massive opportunities but we have seen chances blasted over or shots being blocked from close range, Elliot Hughes having the best of those efforts.

And in the 94th minute the sucker punch came when a ball from the right was crossed over and am unsure if it took a deflection but it looped all the way to the back post on in.

FT 2-3

Despite the chances and we had enough to win three football matches it was a bitterly disappointing performance as we expect better from this group and with defensive errors costing us goals, yet again it’s something we need to address as we look to get back to the side that was hard to score against never mind beat.

The McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Elliot Hughes who was a constant threat throughout.

As always massive thank you to those who made the trip with us, to say am gutted for you all is understatement as we have seen a big opportunity gone of getting some silverware.

Seen a few comments in regard to it not being the club's priority at the moment, but that will only be judged at the end of April.

Up next, we welcome Chadderton to the Anny on Thursday night and we could do with all the local support we can get as we face a side battling for a play off place.

FYI the floodlight issues at the Anny still haven’t been resolved, but once again we remain hopeful it can be sorted out before Thursday night.
