Another point on the road which could have easily been three with the chances created on the day.
We got off to a flying start after just three minutes when the excellent Sam Burns cut one back for Tom Croughan and for what was a very tough strike to take on Tom buried into the far comer, a great strike and start.
Irlam was having joy with the high balls and after a few misjudged headers they ended up getting an equaliser from a corner, a free header letting ex Breck frontman Dec Daniels head home, a very soft goal to give away.
An instant response seen Elliot Hughes finding himself one vs one with the Irlam keeper, with the goal gapping unfortunately Elliot’s left-footed finish could only hit the keepers legs.
We were moving the ball around well and after spotting a two vs one overload Jesse Dowling fed Sam Burns whose quick feet too fast for the defender, Sam was then taken down for a penalty, Jesse Dowling stepping up and hit a cracking strike beating the keeper who made a great attempt to save it .
Just when you thought a good half was to be seen out with only a minute on the clock a lapse of concentration from Elliot Hughes coming away from his own box seen him lose the ball, it certainly looked a foul but all the same it should have been dealt with and away, the ball was moved into the box and after going to block the shot Tom Mitchell took the man down for a penalty.
Declan Daniels stepped up and drove it down the middle but Theo gotta strong leg to it to deny Irlam the equaliser with a fantastic save.
HT 2-1
A slow start to the second half seen Irlam gain the momentum and after dealing with a corner we didn’t get out quick enough and with another ball sent in it was another header from Declan which he had time to direct into the far corner, another poor goal from our perspective with battles being lost in the air once again.
Irlam had two great chances following that with one scuffed wide and the best own blazed over the bar from inside the box.
We started to look threatening again, and Sam Burns was the driving force from the left-hand side, his quick feet were winning fouls, but the best one went against him right on the edge of the box when he was clattered, the referee undecided said he thought it was a dive…!
A ball in from Dan Lowey seen Elliot Hughes glance a header just wide and then the best chance to win it from Sam Burns see him having one of the line and another shot blocked, the one of the line surely would have clinched it.
FT 2-2
Another tough game with Irlam and on the day you think not a bad point but when you reflect on the chances we did have plenty, but that said you can’t scoff at a point on the road in this league.
The McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Sam Burns who was unplayable at times with the ball at his feet and brings a quality every side needs, a great addition moving forward.
As always a massive thanks to those on the road with us yesterday, with a great showing making up near half of the gate, a cracking turnout for the lads once again.
We’re back at home on Saturday when we welcome Glossop to the Anny, another side who have hit a good bit of form of late, so another tough game am sure.
We Go Again.
Up The Breck…
