Straight back to winning ways yesterday, beating Abbey Hey 3-1.
A tricky pitch to play any football on, but you couldn’t fault the lads' effort, with the first half dominant from the opening minute.
We took the lead through Tom Mitchell who headed home from a cracking Dan Lowey delivery, from that we created so many opportunities and Abbey didn’t have an answer to the pressure they were under, but still we only had the solitary goal at the break.
HT 1-0
The second half started well enough, but after Tom Mitchell played a ball across the middle of the park, it landed straight into the number 10s path, and he took it in on goal and made no mistake with his finish, a really poor way to let Hey draw level.
From that we grew again and after Connor Millington seen a free kick cannon off the crossbar we took the lead after a stunning ball from Liam Morris found Elliot Hughes and with Elliot beating the onrushing keeper to it, he nodded it past and after steadying himself finished it off well
Abbey had a couple of decent chances, with the best of them seeing Theo Roberts having to pull off a stunning save to stop a quality effort.
We were awarded a penalty late on when Sam Burns was adjudged to have been brought down driving in on goal. Lewis Buckley stepped up and seen his effort saved, but he was quick enough to follow it up and make no mistake second time around.
Abbey was wide open, and we had plenty more chances to wrap it right up, with new signing Ryan Rogers and Elliot Hughes eating up the space they were given to create chances for themselves, but despite their efforts it remained 3-1.
FT 3-1
Another tricky away day navigated against a side who were bang in form until this week and on the back of last week's defeat at Bury it was important we picked ourselves straight back up and we have done that with a confident away performance.
The McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Liam Morris who was outstanding in the middle of the pitch, calm, composed and putting in some solid tackles and rounded his performance off with a quality assist.
Massive thanks to those who made the trip with us, great support once again on a cold afternoon in Gorton.
Up next we welcome South Liverpool to the Anny on Wednesday night which is the rearranged game from when the Fog came down, we hope you can come join us.
We Go Again.
